Electric Vehicle Charging Station Available at Channel Islands Harbor

Electric vehicle drivers now have an option to plug in and charge their vehicles at the Channel Islands Harbor.

A new dual electric ChargePoint vehicle charging station has been installed by the Ventura County Harbor Department at the Harbor Landing commercial center, located at 2800 Harbor Blvd. in Oxnard, parking lot for public use. This marks the first charging station available for public use in west Oxnard.

The charging stations were funded by a grant awarded to the Harbor Department by the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District.

Ventura County Supervisor John Zaragoza, whose district includes the Harbor, Harbor Department staff, Ventura County Air Pollution Control District officials, and members of the community hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 to celebrate the charging station.

“There are electric vehicle charging stations sprinkled throughout the County, but this one is unique. This is the first charging station made available for public use on Oxnard’s coast,” Supervisor Zaragoza said.

Harbor Department Director Mark Sandoval said the installation of the electric vehicle charging stations demonstrates the County’s commitment to focus on continuous improvements in facilities and programs at the Harbor.

“We are grateful for the funding provided and look forward to making more meaningful improvements for our community and visitors,” Sandoval said.

The electric vehicle station is capable of charging two cars. The station uses ChargePoint technology and will fully charge an electric vehicle within four to five hours, depending on the vehicle. This charging station joins an increasing network of ChargePoint stations throughout Ventura County and can be located with a smartphone’s map app and on the ChargePoint app.

Air District Clean Air Fund Advisory Committee member Gene Rubin said the charging station is a welcome addition for visitors who come from outside the area.

“Visitors with electric cars are coming here fossil free, they are going to make zero pollution on the way and zero particulate, and that’s exactly what we love seeing and happy to see it at the Channel Islands Harbor,” Rubin said.
