August 2023 Director’s Message
I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits as we dive into the wonderful month of August. As always, it’s my pleasure to update you on exciting events and activities happening at the Harbor.
Channel Islands Women’s Sailing Association Adventure Sail Day on the Mystic Whaler
The Channel Islands Women’s Sailing Association is inviting girls ages 9-14 to enjoy a full day’s programming about “Women and Sailing Across the Ages.” This event, which includes sailing aboard the tall ship Mystic Whaler, is offered at no charge to a maximum of 40 girls who might not otherwise have an opportunity to experience sailing. Each girl may bring one accompanying adult, if desired.
The Channel Islands Women’s Sailing Association is partnering this year with the Channel Islands Maritime Museum, Central Coast Ocean Adventures Foundation, and the Channel Islands Yacht Club to offer this program. I would like to commend all the partnering organizations for offering this valuable program.
This event is scheduled for this Saturday the 12th, so be sure to register quickly by visiting this link.
Concerts by the Sea
Our beloved and well-attended Concerts by the Sea continue in August with great tunes against the backdrop of the Harbor. Every Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. this month, join us at Harbor View Park for a musical extravaganza that will surely leave you dancing in the park. Concerts by the Sea are a celebration of music, community, and beautiful Harbor days. Be sure to bring your blankets, picnic baskets, and dancing shoes!
Upcoming Events: Parade of Frights and Parade of Lights
It’s never too early to start planning for our largest signature events of the Fall and Winter – the Parade of Frights and Parade of Lights.
As Fall approaches, get ready for the thrill of Parade of Frights, a spooktacular event that embraces the Halloween spirit on the water and landside. We are currently working with our community partners to enhance landside activities. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 28th.
I’m excited to share the 57th Annual Parade of Lights is scheduled for Saturday, December 9th. This year’s theme will be “Santa’s Workshop.” I know the boaters are already working on plans to festively decorate their vessels for this special night.
Stay tuned for more information on these cherished gatherings that bring our community together.
August promises to be filled with maritime adventures, musical magic, and anticipation for the festive times to come. Let’s continue to appreciate the beauty of the Harbor!
