August 2024 Director’s Message
We are amid another amazing summer here at the Channel Islands Harbor, and I want to share some great news that promises to enhance our community and continue to bolster our reputation as one of the best destinations for tourism and local entertainment.
One of my main focuses as Harbor Director is to bring events to the Harbor. Whether they are organized by the Harbor Department, a Harbor business, or outside organization, events draw visitors from near and far, invigorating our local economy while offering fun and entertainment for the locals as well.
Wheels & Waves
I’m happy to share with you our friends at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum will be home to “Wheels & Waves,” an event that will feature classic cars, coffee, live music, and more.
The Maritime Museum has partnered with Hollywood car designer Fireball Tim Lawrence to bring this event to the museum parking lot from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month. The first Wheels & Waves will take place on Sunday, Sept. 1st.
Concerts by the Sea
If you haven’t made it to one of our free concerts yet, you’ve been missing out on a good time! Harbor View Park has been packed with people and great performances. August will be the last month for the concert series so be sure to get out and enjoy one of the best venues in the county. Check out the lineup here.
Parade of Lights
I’m excited to share the 58th Annual Parade of Lights is scheduled for Saturday, December 14th. This year’s theme will be “Sleigh Bells & Spurs: A Rockin’ Rodeo Boat Parade.” I know the boaters are already eagerly working on plans to decorate their vessels for this special night.
As we look ahead to August and beyond, I invite you to join us in celebrating these new and annual events. Whether you’re a longtime resident or a first-time visitor, your presence enriches the fabric of our Harbor community. Together, let’s make this summer unforgettable.
Michael Tripp, Director
Ventura County Harbor Department
