February 2025 Director’s Message

This year marks an incredible milestone for Channel Islands Harbor – we are celebrating our 60th anniversary! On Memorial Day in 1965, the Ventura County Harbor Department officially opened the harbor, and since then, it has become a destination for recreation, business, and community. Over the decades, Channel Islands Harbor has had its ebbs and flows, while becoming an integral part of Oxnard and Ventura County history.

To honor our 60th “Diamond Anniversary”, the Harbor Department is planning a variety of celebrations and events that will kick off after Memorial Day and continue through the end of 2025. We are seeking to enhance existing events and are currently working with harbor stakeholders to create and host a variety of activities, both on and off the water, that help bring lifelong memories for everyone as we celebrate the harbor’s anniversary.

We want YOU to be a part of this celebration! We invite community members and visitors to share their memories, stories, and old photographs of the harbor over the years. These personal reflections will help us make this anniversary truly special and bring the spirit of the harbor to life in a way that is meaningful to everyone.

Whether you have a favorite memory, an old photo, or a great idea for an event or activity, we would love to hear from you. Your contributions will be an important part of our celebration, and we look forward to honoring the harbor’s history together. Please feel free to email CIHarborVisitors@ventura.org

Thank you for being part of the Channel Islands Harbor community, and here’s to many more years of connection, memories, and growth!

Michael Tripp, Director
Ventura County Harbor Department
