Volunteers Step Up and Clean Harbor, Surrounding Beaches
Channel Islands Harbor and surrounding beaches are looking a lot cleaner today thanks to the 202 volunteers who showed up and picked up trash on the 35th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day this past weekend.
According to Ventura County Coastal Cleanup Day organizers, 942 pounds of trash were picked up by 202 volunteers who represented three groups. The three groups walked Silver Strand Beach, Hollywood Beach, Mandalay Beach, Oxnard Dunes, and the Channel Islands Harbor.
Site Name | Volunteers | Pounds of Trash |
---|---|---|
Fairwind Yacht Club | 64 | 799 |
Silver Strand Beach | 124 | 68 |
Channel Islands Harbor | 14 | 75 |

Countywide, 3,902 volunteers participated and picked up 16,064 pounds of trash along the Ventura County coast. Last year, volunteers picked up almost 13,000 pounds of trash.
The mission of Coastal Cleanup Day is to engage people to remove debris from our beaches and waterways; to identify the sources of marine debris; and ultimately to change the behaviors that cause pollution.
