Workshop to Review Fisherman’s Wharf Development Proposals Scheduled
Three proposed projects for the development of Fisherman’s Wharf at Channel Islands Harbor will be on display at a public workshop hosted by the Ventura County Harbor Department.
The workshop will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022, at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, located at 800 Hobson Way, Oxnard, CA 93030. The public workshop is being held following a Request for Proposals (RFP) period that closed July 7th, 2022. The Harbor Department received four RFPs from developers. Three of the proposals were recommended by a Harbor Advisory Committee to move forward to the public workshop portion of the process. The proposals for Fisherman’s Wharf include:
- A market-anchored lifestyle retail center. The proposal includes a specialty grocery store, retail, restaurants, playground, water feature, and amphitheater.
- A mixed-land use project, including commercial, retail, and housing. The proposal includes a tenant mix offering a variety of new dining, entertainment and shopping experiences, a boutique hotel, activated community spaces, and apartments.
- A visitor-serving strawberry-themed village. The village would offer free entry to shops, restaurants, rides, and activities that celebrate the strawberry.
Representatives from each proposed development will be available to display their proposal and answer any questions attendees might have.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have the developers meet the community face-to-face and listen to feedback and ideas,” said Michael Tripp, Harbor Department Director. “Being at this stage of the process means we are getting one step closer to making real progress at Fisherman’s Wharf.”
Director Tripp said following the workshop, the developers will have an opportunity to consider recommendations from the public, Harbor Department, and Harbor Advisory Committee to make modifications to the project with the input received.
Once the revised proposals are received, the Harbor Department may recommend to the Board of Supervisors to enter into an Exclusive Right to Negotiate with a developer.
